What we usually post in this blog are materials which show that learning a language is basically a practical activity. In this case, to contribute to the school library reading project, we chose The Last of the Mohicans to read and later see the film.
That would be a simple exercise, and a good one, but I imagined that some more things could be done around this simple project. Knowing the background would help the students understand the story, so I looked for some sites, organised groups and proposed a number of topics around the situation and people in America at that time. The people who lived there and the new people who arrived for different reasons - or maybe the same basic reason: riches, products, money -; the colaboration and, more often, the conflicts among them.
I will not say anything else. The outcome is in the linked file. I only want to congratulate the 1st of Bachillerato students for a great work. I knew they would do something good and they exceeded my expectations. And the final results and satisfaction of the students at the end of the year was really good, except those who tried to continue doing the traditional "I study for tests, and that is enough", who did not get so much benefit from the activity.
